Through the Great Depression, World War ll and massive changes in the lumber industry,  Scherer Brothers has continued to thrive by thinking outside the box – doing what others did not think to do and finding value in items others threw away. For example, “Rip and Trim” lumber stock was not rationed during WW ll. Investing in this odd sized material kept the mill running around the clock to produce sought after items for the war effort.

After the war, the industry focus was on small high-quality building companies with skilled tradesmen. Providing these discerning craftsmen with products they could not find elsewhere became a hallmark of Scherer Brothers.

Scherer Brothers innovative mindset and approach led to the introduction of new products such as doors and windows. Way ahead of their time, they were the first to sell triple glazed windows – long before the energy crunch of the early 70’s made them important to consumers.

For over 90 years and three generations, the Scherer Family has grown the business from one lumber yard to three lumber yards, along the way increasing the product portfolio from lumber to a wide range of products such as trusses and millwork.

Investments in Stiles’ Solutions have kept the ingenuity alive and well at Scherer Brothers. Over the past three years, optimized ripping and moulding operations have been implemented.

The solutions they chose were a CML E350 2R Moving Blade Rip SawHOMAG 6 spindle CNC Moulder and Kentwood Heavy Duty 6 Spindle MoulderThese additions allowed Scherer Brothers to optimize their lumber “freaky fast” and produce the wide range of quality mouldings that their customers expect quickly and efficiently. Just like their projects, their products now all start with a solid foundation.
